ANGEL IN AMISH COUNTRY
Inspired by Gary Smith’s Sports Illustrated classic Higher Education, filmmakers Zosimo Maximo and Dan Mizicko tell the story of Perry Reese Jr.—an African-American high school basketball coach who transformed a small Amish and Mennonite team into a state powerhouse. Reese’s life was cut short by a brain tumor at age 48, devastating the community he had uplifted. His legacy endures: more than 50 children in the county bear his name, families have adopted Black children in his honor, and former players now lead the storied program.
